Love Me Tender Jesus: Pop Songs and Sacred Polyphony
St. Josaphat (2311 N Southport) | Chicago, IL

On Saturday, August 17th, at 8pm, in the sonic wonderland of St. Josaphat Parish in Chicago, KSS will present its annual summer concert of Renaissance polyphony. This year, in a program unsolemnly titled "Love Me Tender Jesus: Pop Songs and Sacred Polyphony," KSS will explore the influence of popular secular music on the sacred compositions of some of the masters of Renaissance composing. Along the way, we will hear some of the masterpieces of sacred Renaissance music, including Josquin's majestic finale to his L'homme armé mass, a divinely beautiful Lassus mass based on a most un-divine tune, and Jean Mouton's eight-voice tour de force, Nesciens mater.
